A surface light emitting device, comprising a reflector (3) having a bottom part (4) and sloped parts (13) surrounding the periphery thereof and a LED (5) installed at the center of the bottom part (4), wherein the holder part (9) of a light control means (7) is detachably fitted onto the lens (6) of the LED (5) and a main reflecting part (11) and a reflecting and transmitting part (12) are provided on the disk part (8) of the light control means (7), the transmitted amount of light from the LED (5) is reduced by the main reflecting part (11) and much of the light is reflected to the reflector (3) side and the transmitted amount of light through the reflecting and transmitting part (12) is increased over that through the main reflecting part (11), whereby an entire area over the reflector (3) can be illuminated with a generally uniform brightness by the light transmitted through the main reflecting part (11) and the reflecting and transmitting part (12) and the light irregularly reflected from the reflector (3). |
