The roller skate is fitted with rollers capable only of rolling forwards and using ball bearings which block any backward movement of the rollers. The ball bearings may consist of ball or needle bearings and are fitted to the axles of the roller skates. They may be fitted to one of two axles. The object is to improve the safety of the sport of roller skating.
