<p>Compacted material base on cubic boron nitride crystals are bonded together by a binder (a) contg. >=1 of Ti2Cu, TiCu, Ti2Cu3, TiCu3, Zr2Cu, ZrCu, Zr2Cu3, ZrCu3. The pref. material consists of cubic BN contg. 10-35 vol.% binder (a) but the material may also contain up to 50 vol.% of the binder (a) as the alloying elements, V, Cr, Nb, Mo, Ta, W, Fe, Co, Ni and/or Mn1 and esp. the compsn. in vol.%:- 80-90% BN, 8-16% binder (a), 2-4% alloying elements. In the pref. mfg. process, the BN and the binder are subjected to 10-50 kilobars at 1000-1400 degrees C., esp. where the binder is near, but not mixed with, the BN; and the binder pref. contains the alloying elements. Used e.g. in machining or working steel or alloys based on Fe, Ni, or Co; or for mfr. of grinding tools. Process used reduced press. and temp. in the mfr.</p> |
