Polystyrene foam packaging material - from peeled thin foam strips with bonded outer paper layers

Packaging material consists of polystyrene foam which carries outer layers on both sides. The polystyrene foam is produced not by extrusion but by peeling it off a cylindrical block by scalping blades to a thickness of 1.5 mm. Two layers of different thickness and grade are bonded to the two sides. The other layers may be paper and carton applied using an adhesive. This is cheaper than extrusion and is suitable for much thinner layers which are impermeable to water or grease but can be printed directly in conventional machines.
