An agent selected from: (a) a peptide derived from a Nogo or a Nogo receptor molecule and (b) autologous T cells recognizing a peptide of (a) in the context of class II MHC molecules, is provided for conferring neuroprotection and thus preventing or inhibiting neuronal degeneration in the central nervous system for ameliorating the effects of injury, disorder or disease.
