<p>An enhanced reactant flow plate and flow field design for a fuel cell (10) or electrochemical reactor is disclosed. The reactant flow plate may be a bipolar plate (52,54), end plate (48,50), or the like that delivers an anode reactant to an anode (34) and/or a cathode reactant to a cathode (36). The reactant flow plate may incorporate a reactant flow field with a spiral shape that provides relatively uniform distribution of the reactant over the surface of the adjacent anode (34) or cathode (36). If the reactant flow plate is a bipolar plate (52,54), anode and cathode flow fields on opposite sides of the bipolar plate (52,54) may mesh with each other so that both flow fields can be formed through the creation of a series of ripples in the bipolar plate (52,54). The bipolar plate (52,54) may be formed from a metal sheet by a comparatively simple manufacturing process such as stamping, or may be formed of a conductive plastic composite material through a method such as compression or injection molding.</p> |
