The method involves implementing a matrix of bistable optical switching elements by local illumination and/or segmentation of an optical resonator of very large Fresnel number for connection between a set of incoming optical fibers and a set of outgoing fibers. After switching the bistable switch elements the actual transmission of the information carrying optical signals no longer requires non-linear.
