The device has a housing (13) with an electronic circuit (18), and is capable of pressing against a rim (21) of a wheel during fitting of a valve (10) to the rim. The housing has two pyramid shaped teeth (16, 17), where one tooth is connected electrically to the electronic circuit and possesses an opening to receive a chip produced by scratching a surface of the valve during fitting of the valve to the rim.
