摘要 Liquid crystalline medium containing: (A) p,p',p''-terphenyl derivatives substituted with optionally modified alkyl at position 4, with fluorine at positions 3', 3'' and optionally 5'' and with halogen-type groups at position 4'' and (B) 1-cyclohexyl-2-(4-phenylcyclohexyl)-ethylene derivatives with optionally modified terminal alkyl groups. A liquid crystalline (LC) medium (I) contains compound(s) of formula (A) and compound(s) of formula (B). Ra, Rb, Rbb = 1-12C alkyl (optionally substituted with one CN or CF3 group or at least one halogen, and/or with one or more CH2 groups replaced by -O-, -S-, cyclobutane-1,3-diyl, -CH=CH-, -C equivalent to C-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO- or -OCOO- but with no direct links between O atoms); L<1> = H or F; Q = CF2, OCF2, CFH, OCFH or a single bond; Y = F or Cl; or (Q-Y) = NCS, SCN or SF5 (in addition to the above definitions for Q and Y). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Electro-optical LC displays containing (I). (2) TN or STN LC displays with two base plates with edges forming a cell, a nematic LC mixture with positive dielectric anisotropy ( DELTA e) in the cell, electrode layers with orientation layers on the inside of the base plates, an angle of 0-30 degrees between the base plates and the long axis of the molecules on their surfaces and a twist angle (of the LC mixture from orientation layer to orientation layer) of 22.5-600 degrees , in which the nematic LC mixture comprises 15-75 wt.% LC component A (one or more compounds with DELTA e = more than +1.5, including at least one compound of formula A), 25-85 wt.% LC component B (compound(s) with DELTA e = -1.5 to +1.5, including at least one compound of formula B), 0-20 wt.% LC component D (compound(s) with DELTA e = below -1.5) and optionally an optically active component C in amounts such that the ratio between layer thickness and the natural pitch of the chiral LC mixture = 0.2-1.3.
