The air bag module for a motor vehicle has a base housing (30) with peripherally continuous or spaced projections (26). There is an air bag assembly (20), with a mouth having a peripheral contour smaller than that of the projections and the peripheral contour of the base housing. The mouth is attached to the air bag holder in an end position. The air bag mouth surrounds the base housing and interlocks with it via the projections.
