In an electric power steering apparatus 10, when a steering torque rotates a pinion 30, a rack shaft 12 having a rack to engage with the pinion is axially moved. At this time, a ball screw nut 36 engaging with a screw groove 34 of the rack shaft 12 through plural balls 68 is rotated by an electric motor 24 so that the axial movement of the rack shaft 12 is assisted. Each of the pinion and a bearing supporting the ball screw nut 36 is positioned at a place corresponding to minimum amplitude of a free vibration of the rack shaft to restrain a transfer of the vibration of the rack shaft to the vehicle body. <IMAGE>
