A multiple function tool (12) having first and second handles (20, 22), a tool head (64) with pivotal jaw members (66, 68), and a plurality of additional tools. The tool head (64) is stored within first channels on first sides (54, 56) of the handles, and the additional tools are stored within second channels (60, 62) on second sides of the handles opposite the first sides. Thus the additional tools do not interfere with gripping of the handles (20, 22). Moreover these tools are easily accessible while the tool head (64) is in the storage position. The compound tool (12) may also include a ratchet (32) and an adapter (152) and coupler that fit on the ratchet. A straight edge ruler (430, 432) may optionally be provided on the top and bottom surfaces of the handles. Preferably, an individual spring (440) is provided for each tool to prevent pivoting away from the storage channels once the tool is extended. A lock mechanism (450) may be provided. <IMAGE>
