PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially mass producing a high-purity acidic group-substituted heterocyclic compound trimer in a high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the acidic group-substituted heterocyclic compound comprises reacting at least one kind of a compound (A) of a heterocyclic compound such as indole, benzo[b]thiophene, benzo[b]furan, etc., substituted with an acidic group such as a sulfonic acid group, a carboxy group, etc., its alkali metal salt, ammonium salt and substituted ammonium salt and, if necessary, a heterocyclic compound (D) with at least one kind of an oxidizing agent (C) in a solution containing a basic compound (B).
