<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the wear resistance of the conventional tungsten carbide based sintered compact is not sufficient when used for a cutting tool. <P>SOLUTION: By weight, 0.1 to 2% chromium carbide and/or vanadium carbide is added to a tungsten carbide based sintered compact, so that the growth of the particles of tungsten carbide is suppressed without reducing the sinterbility thereof. Further, 0.1 to 10% molybdenum carbide, zirconium carbide and/or niobium carbide is added to a tungsten carbide sintered compact, so that hardness is improved without reducing the toughness thereof. Thus, the tungsten carbide sintered compact exhibits excellent wear resistance and chipping resistance when used for a cutting tool. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
