PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective packaging material for a small-size component, which is easy to take out from a packaging box and manufactured easily at a low cost, holds the component securely, and makes it possible to accurately position a printed pattern on a paper in a right place. SOLUTION: The protective packaging material 10 has a plurality of side boards 21 to 24, and is formed as a square cylinder having a polygon-shaped cross section and containing a housing space for the small-size component 1. Between any two side boards among the side boards 21 to 24, a support plate 26 extending in the axial direction of the protective packaging material 10 is arranged in such a way that the distance between the support plate and the axis of the protective packaging material 10 is shorter than that between each side board and the axis. When the small-size component 1 is housed in the protective packaging material 10, the component 1 is pressed to the side boards 21 to 24 via the support plate 26, thereby securely held by the protective packaging material 10.
