摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active monoester of 3-methylgulutaric acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optically active monoester of the 3-methylgulutaric acid represented by general formula (2) [wherein R is the same or different, and a 1-4C lower alkyl group; and (*) represents an asymmetric carbon atom] comprises asymmetrically hydrolyzing a diester of the 3-methylgulutaric acid represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R is the same or different and a 1-4C lower alkyl) by using an enzyme having an activity for preferentially hydrolyzing one ester site of the diester, or a cultured product of microorganisms having productivity of the enzyme or a treated product thereof.
