PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon nanotubes treated with plasma, its dispersion, its solution and its composition, and a method for manufacturing these. SOLUTION: Carbon nanotubes are treated with plasma to improve the dispersibility and the purification degree and to impart functional groups to the outer surfaces. The content of the acidic functional groups is controlled to 2% with respect to carbon on the outer surfaces of the carbon nanotubes. The carbon nanotubes are dispersed in a liquid by using ultrasonic waves to prepare the carbon nanotube dispersion or the carbon nanotube solution. The carbon nanotubes are purified by dispersing the plasma-treated carbon nanotubes in the liquid and then classifying. Or, the carbon nanotubes are purified by concentrating and drying the carbon nanotube dispersion or the carbon nanotube solution. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
