PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 3- azidocarboxylic ester and optically active 3-aminocarboxylic ester each having high purity at a high yield and generating little waste to be treated. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optically active 3-azidocarboxylic ester comprises reacting a 3-halogenocarboxylic ester with an azide salt in an aqueous solvent comprising water or a mixture of water with a water-soluble organic solvent, the method for producing an optically active 3-aminocarboxylic ester comprises hydrogenating the optically active 3-azidocarboxylic ester in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and the method for reusing the unreacted azide salt in producing the optically active 3-halogenocarboxylic ester comprises separating/recovering, in producing the optically active 3- azidocarboxylic ester, the aqueous phase containing the azide salt and reusing the aqueous phase as it is.
