PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new butadienylphosphonic acid cyclic ester industrially useful as an additive monomer for modifying vinyl resins, acrylic resins and the like, or as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals/agrochemicals and fine chemical derivatives, and to provide a method for efficiently producing the same. SOLUTION: The new 1,3-butadienyl-1-phosphonic acid cyclic ester of formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>8</SP>are each H, an alkyl or an aryl) is obtained by reacting a secondary phosphonic acid cyclic ester with a vinylacetylene compound in the presence of a rhodium catalyst. In the production method, no side reactions essentially occur and by-products are scarcely formed, the operation is simple and high selectivity can be realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
