PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst component for polymerization using a ligand capable of being simply prepared and a process for producing a polymer using the catalyst component. SOLUTION: The catalyst comprises as the catalyst component a transition metal complex produced by reacting a compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R1, R2and R3are each independently hydrogen, a 1-10C alkyl group which may be replaced, a 6-20C aryl group which may be replaced, a 7-20C aralkyl group which may be substituted, a 1-10C alkoxy group which may be replaced, a 6-20C aryloxy group which may be substituted, a 7-20C aralkyloxy group which may be replaced or the like) with a base and thereafter reacting the same with a transition metal compound represented by formula (2) (wherein M is a transition metal atom of the IV Group of the Periodic Table; and R4to R8are each independently hydrogen, a 1-10C alkyl group which may be replaced, a 6-20C aryl group which may be substituted, a 7-20C aralkyl group which may be replaced or the like).
