<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composition for the dimerization, co- dimerization, oligomerization, and polymerization of an olefin. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst composition usable for the dimerization, co- dimerization, or oligomerization of an olefin contains at least one zero-valent nickel complex, at least one acid having a formula H<SP>+</SP>X<SP>-</SP>(wherein X<SP>-</SP>denotes an anion), and at least one ionic liquid having a general formula Q<SP>+</SP>A<SP>-</SP>(wherein A<SP>-</SP>denotes an anion similar or dissimilar to X<SP>-</SP>). The composition may further contain a nitride ligand.
