PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent which easily deterges a coating agent, such as a water-base ink, a water-borne coating material, a water-based adhesive, or a water-based varnish (hereinbelow referred to as a water-base ink composition) even after it is adhered and dried. SOLUTION: The water-base detergent composition essentially consists of 1-10 wt.% water-soluble basic inorganic salt (a) formed from a weak acid and a strong base, 1-50 wt.% (b) water-soluble glycol ether compound represented by the formula (1): R<SB>1</SB>O-(R<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-R<SB>1</SB>(wherein R<SB>1</SB>is hydrogen or a 1-4C alkyl group; R<SB>2</SB>is a 2-4C alkylene group; and (n) is an integer of 1-4); and 40-98 wt.% (c) water.
