PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program and method for growing a character and a video game apparatus for varying a parameter expressing a relation between characters except for an ability parameter by selecting an exercise items for improving the ability of the characters.

SOLUTION: A CPU 1 accepts the election of an exercise item desired by a user from among a plurality of the exercise items, virtually carries out the exercise of the character according to the accepted exercise item, changes the ability parameter featuring the ability of the character according to the carried out exercise, and changes a relation parameter about relation between the character and other characters.
