<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can arbitrarily set a time after a recording paper is inserted before the recording paper is started to be transferred, art optimum control method for a printer, and an efficient POS printer which can arbitrarily set a set time of recording papers in accordance with a worker's skill level. <P>SOLUTION: A setting command for the recording paper set time, and set time data if any are stored in a temporary data storing means by a data analyzing means 151 which analyzes data from an interface 64 for receiving printing data. After the insertion of the recording paper is detected, the transfer of the recording paper or a start of printing is kept waiting by the set time with the use of a counting means 154.
