<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new polysaccharides having a phosphorylcholine group excellent in biocompatibility and moistness and useful as a medical polymer material, e.g. an artificial organ, a biomembrane, a coating agent for a medical implement, a drug delivery system or an ingredient of cosmetics, and to provide a simple method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the polysaccharides having a phosphorylcholine group comprises adding an aldehyde-containing compound obtained by oxidative cleavage reaction of glycerophosphorylcholine.
