PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory which is stable even under high temperature over 1,850°C and in an oxidation-reduction atmosphere of a carbon black production furnace, and has excellent corrosion and spalling resistance, and also to provide the carbon black production furnace using the same which can improve yield and productivity of a carbon black produced by thermal decomposition of a hydrocarbon stock oil. SOLUTION: The yttria refractory is obtained by mixing the refractory comprising a single component and/or two or more components selected from the group consisting of metal oxides consisting of Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Cr<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, CeO<SB>2</SB>and ZrO<SB>2</SB>, so as to contain 80-99.9 wt.% Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>in the total of the metal oxides, followed by kneading, molding, drying and baking at a high temperature. The yttria refractory lining of at least a part of the carbon black production furnace allows high-temperature thermal decomposition of the hydrocarbon stock oil. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
