PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably decompose garbage by a microbe for a long period of time regardless of the kind of the garbage to be thrown in when garbage is decomposed by throwing it in a garbage treating machine for decomposing and vanishing the garbage by the action of the microbe. SOLUTION: The garbage treating machine is provided with a garbage decomposing tank 2, an agitator arranged in the tank 2 and an aerating means into the tank 2. Garbage is thrown in the garbage treating machine and decomposed by agitating the agitator intermittently and aerating the tank 2 by the aerating means. A lactic acid bacteria-containing substance or citric acid, the lactic acid bacteria-containing substance and a nitrogenous nutriment or citric acid and the nitrogenous nutriment are added to the tank 2.
