PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dephosphorizing material which enables the effective removal of phosphorus from water containing phosphorus by effectively eluting a calcium component as the dephosphorizing material and is capable of utilizing the phosphorus component immobilized in the dephosphorizing material after the removal of phosphorus as a fertilizer, and a dephosphorization method using the same. SOLUTION: The dephosphorizing material is made by applying a calcium compound on the surface of core material. The dephosphorization method is characterized in that the water containing phosphorus to be dephosphorized is brought into contact with the dephosphorizing material and the phosphorus component in the water containing phosphorus is immobilized in the calcium compound on the surface of the dephosphorizing material, thereafter, the calcium compound on the surface of the dephosphorizing material on which the phosphorus component is immobilized is stripped off and the phosphorus component is recovered.
