PROCESS FOR PARAFFIN HYDROCARBON ISOMERIZATION AND COMPOSITE CATALYST THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an isomerized product having high octane number and provide a catalyst for the process.

SOLUTION: The process for the conversion of linear and/or branched paraffin hydrocarbons is based on the use of an ionic liquid catalyst in combination with a metal salt additive. The combined use of the catalyst and the additive provides a catalytic composition having an increased activity compared with the separate use of the ionic liquid. Under suitable reaction conditions, the conversion process gives a paraffin hydrocarbon fraction having higher octane number.
