<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further enhance the oxidation activity of a saturated hydrocarbon of a catalyst having Pd supported thereon and to enhance even the high temperature durability of the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: Composite noble metal colloid including two-phase colloid having Pd colloid therein and Pt colloid on the surface thereof is supported on a porous oxide carrier. Since Pt is present on the surface of the two-phase colloid, the adsorbability of an oxygen atom to Pd is properly relaxed and the adsorption of saturated hydrocarbon to an active point is hardly obstructed. Simple oxidation activity is more excellent than that of Pd and the Pt present on the surface of the two-phase colloid acts as an adsorption point to generate the adsorption- dissociation of saturated HC and, thereafter, Pt is reacted with an oxygen atom adsorbed by Pd. Therefore, the activity of the catalyst is enhanced as compared with the case of Pd alone. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
