PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an industrially suitable sulfide derivative with which the sulfide derivative is produced from a phenylacetic acid derivative in high yield by a simple method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the sulfide derivative represented by general formula (4) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom or a carboxyalkyl group represented by general formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>denote each a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group; and R<SP>4</SP>denotes a hydrocarbon group)] is carried out as follows. The phenylacetic acid derivative represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>has the same meaning as in general formula (4); and X denotes a halogen atom] is reacted with a thiol compound represented by general formula (3) [wherein, R<SP>4</SP>has the same meaning as in general formula (4)] at 130-250°C under an autogenous pressure.
