PURPOSE:To improve the purification performance for harmful components in waste gases from internal combustion engines by depositing catalyst components consisting of cerium oxide and palladium or these and platinum on carriers of alpha-alumina, delta-alumina, etc. CONSTITUTION:Catalyst components of ratios of 0.6-100g/l cerium oxide, 0.01- 50g/l palladium and 0.001-5g/l platinum (based on the volume of carriers) are deposited on porous carriers of alpha-alumina, delta-alumina, magnesia-alumina-spinel, etc., whereby a catalyst is made. In the case of adapting such catalyst to an internal combustion engine, a converter 2 packed with said catalyst 21 is disposed in the exhaust passage 11 of an internal combustion engine 1, and a temp. detector 5 is inserted into the catalyst packed bed in the converter 2. This detector 5 is connected to a comparing controller T. A waste gas contg. a large amount of oxygen is fed into the converter 2, whereby the exhaust gas purification of good efficiency is accomplished. |
