SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing 3-[2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3- quinolyl]prop-2-enal of the formula (3) that is an intermediate compound in synthesis of cholesterol- reducing agents. Indicated method involves interaction of 2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)quinoline-3- carboaldehyde with diethylcyanomethylphosphonate in the presence of a base at temperature from 20 to 40 C to yield 3-(2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-quinolyl)-prop-2-enenitrile and the further interaction of 3-(2- cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-quinolyl)-prop-2-enenitrile with diisobutylaluminium hydride at temperature from 5 to 10 C to yield the end compound.
