A contact assembly for use in, e.g. a printed circuit edge connector, comprises two conductive bodies 18, 20, (Fig. 3) each having an integrally formed crimping ferrule 29, 40 and spring contact member 16, 17 and an insert of insulating material 32 separating the two bodies, the bodies being held together by posts 34 projecting from the insert into holes in the conductive bodies. The assembly, Fig. 4, is shown prior to being crimped on to a coaxial cable 5 such that after crimping has taken place the inner conductor 39 is electrically connected via the body 20 to the spring contact 17 and the outer conductor 19 via the body 18 to the contact 16. A printed circuit edge connector is also described (Figs. 1, 2, not shown) the connector comprising a housing 1 having a plurality of parallel cavities (7) formed therein for receiving the assemblies. An alternative technique for crimping the outer conductor 19 is also described wherein a portion of the braid 19 is trapped between opposing teeth 27, 28 of the ferrule 26 (Fig. 5, not shown). |
