FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention provides new crystalline form of N, N, N, N-dimethyl(benzyl)(2- benzoxyethyl)ammonium chloride, which can be used as seedling rootage enhancing agent. Product is prepared by treating N,N-dimethlamino-2-ethanol with benzyl chloride heated first to 50-55 C in benzene or toluene medium followed by adding water preheated to the same temperature, separating aqueous solution of formed quaternary ammonium alcohol, adding alkali metal hydroxide, and performing O-alkylation of quaternary ammonium alcohol with benzyl chloride at 70-75 C and dimethlaminoethanol-to-alkali molar ratio 1:(1-1.8), after which reaction mixture is acidified with hydrochloric acid to pH 4-5, diluted with water, and uncolored desired product with melting point 118-120 C is isolated.
