PURPOSE: A composition for promoting oral hygiene having increased effect of preventing and treating tooth decay and periodontal disease by staying xanthorrhizol having excellent antibacterial activity within a tooth and oral soft tissue for a long period is provided. Therefore, it exerts antibacterial activity against tooth decay and periodontal disease-causing bacteria. CONSTITUTION: The composition for improving oral hygiene contains 0.01 to 1.0% by weight of each of xanthorrhizol and an adhesion enhancing agent, together with a polishing agent, a fluorine compound, a swelling agent, a binding agent, etc., based on the total weight of the composition. The adhesion enhancing agent is selected from the group consisting of ursodeoxycholic acid, dipotassium glycyrrhizinate and a mixture thereof.
