PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease internal resistance and to suppress self-discharge. SOLUTION: An active carbon electrode 12a bonded to a current collecting aluminum foil 11a and an active carbon electrode 12b bonded to a current collecting aluminum foil 11b are arranged oppositely while holding a separator 14 between. The separator 14 is formed of a material produced by making porous a polypropylene film or a polyethylene film. The separator 14 has pore size distribution of 1μm or less and a porosity of 60% or above, preferably 75% or above. When this separator is employed, internal resistance decreases, self-discharge is suppressed and the performance of an electric double layer capacitor is enhanced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
