PURPOSE: A compatible optical pickup is provided to secure the reliability of an operation at a high temperature by reducing a bonding point attached by an infrared bond. CONSTITUTION: First and second light sources(12,13) emit first and second beams different in wavelength appropriate for first and second recording media different in format. An objective lens(16) focuses the first and second beams to form an optical spot on recording surfaces of the recording media. A single beam splitter(20) includes first and second mirror surfaces(21,23) for converting a traveling path of an incident beam, so that the first beam is reflected from the first mirror surface to proceed to the objective lens, and the second beam is reflected from the second mirror surface or transmits the second mirror surface to proceed to the objective lens. A photo detector(18) receives the reflected first and second beams for detecting an information signal and/or error signal. |
