PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brush device wherein a brush in prevented from rattling in a brush holder. SOLUTION: Substantially oval rear plate-side engaging portions 10c are formed on rear plates 10 of the brush holders 5. The rear plate-side engaging portions 10c are short in diameters in the direction of the rotation of a commutator 3 as viewed from the direction of the radius of the commutator 3. Substantially oval brush-side engaging portions 6a are formed at rear ends of the brushes 6. The brush-side engaging portions 6a are short in diameters in the direction of the rotation of the commutator 3 as viewed from the direction of the radius of the commutator 3. The rear plate-side engaging projected portions 10c and the brush-side engaging projected portions 6a are disposed in positions offset in the direction of the rotation of the commutator 3 and in the axial direction. Coil springs 7 are formed in substantially oval and cylindrical shape. Ends of the coil springs 7 on one side are unrotatably engaged with the rear plate-side engaging portions 10c.
