PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to concentrate himself to talking of captions by eliminating the necessity of switching or speed adjusting an image or the captions by matching divided captions and static images automatically to the talking speed by voice-recognizing words talked by the user and comparing with the captions or matching scrolling captions and moving images display speed automatically to the talking speed and controlling the captions and the image. SOLUTION: A character reproducer comprises: a DVD reproducing unit 4 for outputting character information corresponding to the moving image information and the image information; a display unit 11 for displaying the moving image information and the character information output from the reproducing unit; a RAM 3 for storing the character information output from the reproducing unit 4; microphone 9; a voice recognition circuit 6 for voice- recognizing the voice input from the microphone 9; and a control circuit 1 for controlling the display speed of the moving image information based on a comparison of the voice recognized by the circuit 6 with the character information stored in the RAM 3.
