PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To not only perform satisfactory nonlinear correction processing without requiring a ROM having a large memory capacity but also instantaneously change a nonlinear correction curve. SOLUTION: In a nonlinear processing circuit for outputting a video signal Y obtained by subjecting an input video signal X to nonlinear processing by arithmetic using a function F(X), the function F(X) is divided into areas 1, 2, and 3 to obtain smoothly continuous polynomial functions (for example, spline functions) F<SB>1</SB>(X), F<SB>2</SB>(X) and F<SB>3</SB>(X). When an input selection part 20 discriminates which of areas 1, 2, and 3 the input video signal X belongs to and outputs a corresponding selection signal to a coefficient calculation part 22, the coefficient calculation part 22 calculates coefficients for areas 1, 2, and 3 on the basis of the selection signal and control point data T and outputs the coefficients to an arithmetic part 24. The arithmetic part 24 calculates the output video signal Y from the input video signal X by arithmetics using the coefficients from the coefficient calculation part 22 as coefficients of F<SB>1</SB>(X) to F<SB>3</SB>(X).
