Esters (I) of alkoxylated polyols and (un)saturated fatty acids having 8-24 carbon atoms are used in cosmetic compositions as agents for inhibiting adhesion of microorganisms to the surface of the skin and/or mucosa. An Independent claim is also included for cosmetic treatment of disorders associated with adhesion of microorganisms by applying a (I)-containing composition to the skin and/or mucosa.
