<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To configure an optical branching/inserting apparatus without using optical components such as an optical switch and a rejection filter, to enhance the performance of a WDM transmission system per one channel while remarkably simplifying the structure of and reducing the cost of the optical branching/ inserting apparatus, and then, the WDM transmission system, and to flexibly cope with the increase/decrease in the number of wavelengths in service. <P>SOLUTION: The WDM transmission apparatus 1 (3) passes a WDM signal through the WDM receiving apparatus 3 (1) independently of branching/insertion in the optical branching/inserting apparatuses 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, and transmission apparatuses 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 use optical signals with an idle wavelength in the absence of data to be transmitted in the WDM signals for transmission of other data to be transmitted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
