<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery capable of improving battery characteristics such as battery capacity and cycle characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The battery comprises a rolled electrode body 20 having a band-shaped positive electrode 21 and a negative electrode 22 rolled via a separator 23. A lithium metal can be deposited on the negative electrode 22 during charge, and the capacity of the negative electrode 22 is expressed by the sum of a capacity component of lithium when stored/desorbed and a capacity component of the lithium metal when deposited/dissolved. The separator 23 is impregnated with electrolyte liquid containing electrolyte salt. By adding carboxylic acid ester to the electrolyte, a coating is formed on the surface of the negative electrode 22, thus suppressing decomposition reaction of a solvent and preventing a reaction between the deposited lithium metal and the solvent. Furthermore, CO<SB>2</SB>generated by the decomposition of the carboxylic acid ester improves the lithium deposition/dissolution efficiency at the negative electrode 22. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
