PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an optical semiconductor device having an optical semiconductor element into which a semiconductor laser diode and an optical modulator are integrated by a single power supply.
SOLUTION: With respect to the optical semiconductor device having the optical semiconductor element into which the semiconductor laser diode (LD) and the optical modulator (MOD) are integrated, common potential between the semiconductor diode and the optical modulator is set to a reference potential Vcm which is different from ground potential and the semiconductor laser diode and the optical modulator are driven in the reverse direction of each other, having the reference potential as the center. In this way, the optical semiconductor element can be driven by the single power supply. Since the reference potential is set to a potential other than the ground potential, the semiconductor laser diode and the optical modulator can be driven in the reverse direction of each other, having the reference potential as a center. Namely, the semiconductor laser diode is driven in the bias direction and the optical modulator is driven in the reverse bias direction by a voltage of the same polarity. Consequently, the optical semiconductor device including the optical semiconductor element can be driven by the single power supply.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
|
