PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable signals which restrain colors from being mixed and have superior color separation to be read out when the signals are read out from a photodiode possessing a plural of layers. SOLUTION: First conductivity-type regions and second conductivity-type regions whose conductivity type is opposite to that of the former are alternately laminated into a photoelectric conversion element. Junction surfaces between the first conductivity-type regions and the second conductivity-type regions are so formed as to have depths suitable for primarily and photoelectrically converting light having different wave-length bands respectively, and the photoelectric conversion element is capable of outputting signals for each wavelength band. The surface-side region of the junction surface closest to the surface of the photoelectric conversion element is covered with a region whose conductivity type is opposite to that of the surface-side region.
