PURPOSE: A liquid crystal panel for a liquid crystal display is provided to regularly maintain cell gaps at four side parts of an active area, thereby improving characteristics of picture quality. CONSTITUTION: First and second substrates(110,130) have active areas(V) and non-active areas(VI) respectively and the two substrates are opposite to each other. A seal pattern(140) bonds the two substrates, and is placed between the active area and the non-active area. Gate lines(112) are formed on the active area of the first substrate in a first direction. Data lines(114) are formed in a second direction crossing the first direction. A plurality of thin film transistors(T) are formed at points where the gate lines and the data lines cross each other. A plurality of pixel electrodes(116) are connected with the thin film transistors. A common electrode is formed at an inner surface of the second substrate. Gate and data pads(118,120) are placed at the non-active area of the first substrate, being connected with the gate lines and the data lines respectively. A first step height compensating pattern(VIIa) and a second step height compensating pattern(VLLb) uniformly maintain the thickness of gate and data line parts connected with the seal pattern.
