PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of lighting the discharge lamp even in the case that the discharge lamp is in a state of high temperature, for example, in the case of turning on the discharge lamp soon after turn-off, capable of prolonging the life of the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: A means 7, supplying ignition voltage to the discharge lamp 11, comprises a capacitor C<SB>2</SB>charged by supplied voltage, a transformer T<SB>2</SB>boosting and supplying charged voltage of the capacitor C<SB>2</SB>to the discharge lamp 11, a switching element Q<SB>2</SB>switching the connection and disconnection of the voltage of the capacitor C<SB>2</SB>to be impressed to the transformer T<SB>2</SB>, and a thermistor R<SB>3</SB>. By the change of the voltage level of the charging voltage of the capacitor C<SB>2</SB>depending on the resistance of the thermistor R<SB>3</SB>, generated when the switching element Q<SB>2</SB>is switched so as to impress the voltage of the capacitor C<SB>2</SB>to the transformer T<SB>2</SB>, an ignition voltage with a voltage level higher than that at the normal temperature is impressed to the discharge lamp 11 when the discharge lamp 11 is in a state of high temperature.
