The machine, having at least one carousel (20, 40) for processing, e.g. filling and capping, containers (200), incorporates a system for replacing any air in them with an inert gas. The system has an inert gas injector and a cover for each container's opening that forms a deflector cavity or channel to direct the inert gas from a nozzle towards the container's opening. The nozzle, made in the shape of a cylinder with radial holes, is mounted on a transfer carousel (30) between the two main processing carousels, and moves together with each container as it is transferred from one main carousel to the other, and it is fed with inert gas from a distributor (132).
