CONTRAST ADJUSTMENT METHOD, CONTRAST ADJUSTMENT CIRCUIT, AND VIDEO DISPLAY APPARATUS EMPLOYING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display technology whereby a high contrast can stably be obtained.

SOLUTION: The contrast adjustment circuit is configured such that the circuit discriminates a luminance area to which a maximum luminance level within a prescribed period corresponds and a luminance area to which an average luminance level corresponds in a digital luminance signal subjected to analog/digital conversion, changes the gain of the luminance signal on the basis of both discriminated luminance area information items to adjust the contrast of a video image and changes a gain of a chrominance signal to correct the depth of colors.
